Microneedling: How it Works
What is Microneedling? It is a procedure that produces phenomenal results in rejuvenating skin and reversing the signs of aging. It reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles, pores, scars, and can even help decrease blemishes from pigmentation. As a part of the long-term benefits, older type III collagen is remodeled into more youthful and desireable type I collagen. These devices are so effective that the FDA has now uprated their status from class I to class II medical devices. And unlike lasers, microneedling is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types so clients of every color can enjoy the benefits of skin rejuvenation.
Microneedling: The Process
Microneedling involves at least two steps. First, the skin is anesthetized with highly-effective numbing cream in order to maximize comfort and facilitate effective treatment. Step 2 involves the practitioner using a motorized pen-shaped device to produce microchannels in the skin at precise depths. The depth of treatment is adjusted according to the area of the face or body being treated. The third (optional) step involves the application of platelet-rich plasma (or other products) onto the freshly-microchanneled skin, as it is now porous and more readily able to absorb topical substances. The use of PRP or other growth factors will then boost the results of the procedure, allowing for more intense collagen production and shorter healing times.
