Thermi RF

What is Thermi?

Thermi is a device that uses radiofrequency heat to accomplish different types of results:

  1. ThermiSmooth: Topical heat is used to tighten skin and remodel collagen around the eyes.
  2. ThermiTight: Heat is delivered underneath the skin to melt fat, tighten skin, and remodel collagen at deeper layers. This is an excellent treatment for loose skin, particularly of the neck.
  3. ThermiRase: Heat is used to ablate particular nerves, resulting in a Botox-like effect that can last for months or even years.

Our experience is that ThermiSmooth is most effective for the thin skin around the eyes, and treatment takes about 30 minutes. Over the following weeks and months after treatment, the thermal exposure will cause collagen to remodel skin to tighten in the treated area.

ThermiTight is an incredibly effective treatment for tightening skin. It is exceptional for use on the neck (see above), but can be used to tighten skin anywhere on the body. Because it is an invasive procedure, "tumescent anesthesia" is utilized. This involves the injection of a mixture of saline, lidocaine, epinephrine, and sodium bicarbonate. Once the numbing phase of treatment has been performed, the procedure is completely painless. Treatment takes 3 hours and requires 2 practitioners to be present. Downtime is surprisingly minimal. If the procedure is performed on a Friday or Saturday, patients usually return to work on Monday without any detectable bruising or swelling.

ThermiRase is procedure which utilizes heat to carefully and precisely damage nerves that cause unwanted facial movement. A nerve stimulator is used to target the nerve, and then the Thermi cannula delivers heat to damage the nerve and prevent it from functioning. The duration of effect depends on the number of injuries that are delivered to the nerve.
